I thought they stopped making them but see plenty in the stores. Had they been a fire hazard? Do they get hot? How much electricity do they use when switch is off?
No they don't get hot, and they use minimal electricity probably 1 or 2 cents a month. We've had ours for 40 years with no problems. Had to replace a couple of them about 5 years ago that finally stopped working.
Now that I read about it, I think I would consider getting those to replace me existing non lighted switches, whenever a convenient time comes up. Lighted switches are practical. I think I'm too cheap though.

Thought about this for two of our switches. Most others are easy to find. Wish we had a lighted ceiling fan pull knob that lights up when room is dark (by batteries).
Just more expense when you need to replace. We have a few Decora I'm phasing out. Neon bulbs are negligible power consumption. Maybe LED these days. Lighted switches $5 -$7 bucks ...regular ones $.50. But then they rarely need replacing.
I like having them to differentiate switches (especially in multiswitch boxes). If for instance at the front door I have two interior lights and one outdoor, I'll use a lit-switch for the outdoor fixture.
At night it is handy because obviously it makes it easier to see the switches.
Sure, more expensive product, but most people are not changing out switches on a monthly basis, so over the life of the product, pretty negligible costs.
Note you can get them both ways -- on when the light is on (e.g. for an outdoor switch controlled from indoors), or on when the light is off (so you can see the switch to turn the light on).
