Never reduce the air flow?? Then why do the supply registers have a handle to open or close the darn thing?

Because there are times when that's necessary - say when working on your house and you need to close it. But if you ask any HVAC professional they will tell you that your system is balanced for all registers to be open while the system is running. Change that balance and you may have hot/cold issues and you may force your system to work harder, therefore increasing costs and reducing life span.

I have a friend that puts dryer sheets in some of the registers. But she has to change them every few days, seems like a lot of work to me. i vote for letting the furnace and a/c work as intended, and use air fresheners separately if it's an issue.

To cut down on dust, use a better air filter in the furnace. Like one of the 3M ones. They come in different densities.

If you need air fresheners, you might want to think about having the ducts cleaned.

This seems extremely dangerous to me, but then I have a houseful of asthmatics. Why would you want to breathe clothes soften chemicals? It will not soften your lungs or throat just contaminate them. This is right up there with eating tide pods or snorting ovaltine in my estimation. If your house stinks - clean it. If you want to try to cover up the stink with perfume, at least used perfumes that are made for breathing them. That might be a little bit safer. If your air is filled with particulates (dust) you need a new filter, or to clean your ducts. Adding potentially toxic chemicals to the air does not improve the situation. Bounce is not a filter and till not filter the air. All it can do is block the airflow and add potentially damaging chemicals.

Count me in with the group that says no. For me, the best smelling house is a house with no smell at all.

if you like the smell of the dryer sheets it would be just as effective to hang them from your ears

The only off-label use for dryer sheets that actually works is to put them in smelly shoes or sneakers. They will absorb odors.
