Uh, the only kids at home are the fur babies... One kitty does like to watch me closely while I do chores; his job is just to detect crawly critters and eliminate them.
LOL. We had a pacifist cat. Whenever he would see a bug, he would just put his paw lightly on it and then let it run away, if he even bothered to do that.

I am situated in London, United Kingdom, and here calling a company to that job instead of you is a popular trend. I had mixed experience with a few companies over the years. One might think it's a waste of money, but it is a real time-saver. Plus, I am totally allergic to all the cleaning detergents there are over the counter and I don't like the smell of baking soda. The thing is, you don't need to do it that often, especially after the appliance is professionally cleaned. I trust cleanovenreading.co.uk - they are quite the experts and always provide you with tips on how to extend the life of your oven.
I love our range hood and have taken very good care of it since we remodeled our kitchen many years ago. It gets quite the grease and pasta sauce speckles and has served us well; it still looks contemporary even after all these years.
My method: a soft rub/scrub down with Dawn dishwashing liquid (really cuts the baked on grease) and a plastic net scrubbie, several rinses with white vinegar, and whatever is still left comes off well with a diluted mixture of ammonia. It works great although it is time consuming.
I have thought (every time I am cleaning the range and hood) to have commercial cleaners come in and do the work but have yet to succumb to it...someday soon.
I swear by the product KABOOM! I couldn't believe it myself. My overhead range top was loaded with grease spots. I sprayed KABOOM on and thought I would have to wait to let it soak in. But no! To my surprise the grease was dripping off. I love this product! It can be used in so many ways that it always surprises me.
409 is great
dishwashing detergent with very hot water works, too
But best of all - baking soda with white vinegar, make a paste, let it work for a few min - up to an hr, followed by hot water. you can also mix soda with vinegar and dishwashing liquid, then it doesn't dry up so quickly, and you can let it sit longer. Then wash off.
ETA - use some old rags rather than paper towels. Cut up old t shirt is best. Throw the rags in the trash. I find paper towels are not as effective in such situation, and tend to leave small particles behind
Greased Lightening spray cleaner is the best cleaner I have ever used. It works on grease, stains, dirt, just about everything. You can get it at the supermarket.
I second the suggestion for Greased Lightning. It's cheap and readily available at Dollar General Stores. MY side gig a few years ago was refurbing and reselling used commercial espresso grinders (all formerly Starbucks machines.) They nearly all had many years of coffee oil residue built up on every imaginable moving part (think about how dark and oily Starbucks espresso blend is!) I got the worst of it off with Greased Lightning, then used a foaming bubbles bathroom cleaner to get the final film off.
I have good success with Goo Gone gel spray. I have the additional problem of having a copper range hood, and the Goo Gone doesn’t strip the patina.
Spray it on, let it set a minute and wipe off grease with a damp cloth.
