The latest "fad" is stainless steel appliances (kitchen-wise) and I just don't see what's so great about them. Of course, I believe we should all choose what we like, not what is "popular".

I don't own s/s units, but it seems like you'd always be cleaning off finger prints and they look too industrial to me (like a kitchen in a restaurant).

What's your opinion of this latest fad??

I have all stainless steel and I love them but I do think they are harder to keep clean.

I have posted here and there about SS.
My husband is the designer of the two of us, and I really didn't want SS but he did. He loves that sleek look. We have all stainless steel appliances.
Am I crazy about it? Not really--but I don't hate it.
The good news is that yes it looks very nice and the upkeep is really not that bad.
Stainless will never just be a fad for professional cooks. I can understand why the pros like it. But I agree that it is sort of an industrial look; if it had been up to me, I probably would have gone with plain old white.

If people choose whatever is the current 'fad', will they continue to switch out applicances as the 'fads' change?

Appliance manufacturers bank on consumers wanting to have the latest and greatest. As soon as they feel comfy that most homeowners have purchased s/s....they will come up with another design/material and have the media promote it (especially on HGTV) so that people will rush out and spend more money to replace their outdated s/s appliances.

LOL!!! My point exactly!

It's all relative to what each person prefers.

I like the ss look. I think it makes a kitchen pop but I would never buy real ss b/c of the cleaning issues. Too many fingerprints.

I've heard the "pop" description on TV lately and not sure exactly what that means? Does it mean to stand out? Or that it catches your eye?

Katie, I agree with you. I am not a fan of stainless steel appliances. In my opinion, stainless steel is the "harvest gold" & "avocado" of my generation. The only stainless steel appliances I approve of are the true professional appliances - Viking, Sub-Zero, etc. - that are made completely of real stainless steel - even on the cooking surfaces. What I hate the most are these appliances that are basically just black with stainless steel panels pasted on the front just for show. Too trendy. Sadly, the trend has become so ubiquitous that the trend-setters out there are already getting burned out on the look & are starting to reject it. I'd rather have a more timeless look for my appliances (white preferably), but that's because I don't want to feel the pressure to change out my appliances every 10 years just to keep up with the latest trends.
