Have you figured it out yet? I've lived with low-pressure steam in my commercial building for years. And hotwater in my antique house for just as long. Sounds like you're loosing steam someplace.
Years ago the steam boiler feedwater manual fill valve got left on and the boiler flooded and the lines were filled with water up to the 2nd floor. That opened a few radiator sections on the 1st floor and resulted in steam leaks. If you did an overfill on your boiler, maybe you opened something up that was previously sealed.
Get a good head of steam going and start looking for bad/open air relief valves, leaking radiator sections, etc.
after a second bottle of cleaner it's running perfect! it really was just a clog in the return. What a relief! Thanks for the help though I really appreciate it
yes mcip , that's right the boilers working fine and it will go on and off 4-5 times an hour when it cold out.your steam boiler is nothing more than a big tea pot, with pipes. turn or set t-stat up and than flame comes on,heats water to steam, that moves in the steam piping to the rads, when the pressure inside the rads-steam piping gets to about 1 1/2 lbs of steam pressure, the flame will go out,the rads-piping will cool, the steam will go back to water and return to the boiler to start all over again , its a very simple way to heat. I like to work on steam boiler the best ,easy to repair, parts are cheap, its old school.............like me.
LOL thanks. I just didnt think that it would go so slow during normal operation that the indicator would come on. But i checked again a bit ago and the level of the water seemed ok still so i guess that's what it was. I set the T-Stat too high lol
