The ridge vent and soffit vent kinda work together I think.
Nope. More often they'll work against each other.
In most instances the INTAKE air comes in from the eaves along the entire length of the house
with gables at the ends... most of that air has to change direction to EXHAUST.
If the intake and exhaust volume are in balance then the smoothest direct path is best.
FWIW - in northern climes some vents can be a problem. Cold winds blowing snow will blow snow right into gable end vents, especially if there is another vent that acts to lower the air pressure in the attic. If the storm is minor that snowbank inside can evaporate out with no problem, but if it builds up over time or there is a heavy storm it can melt and damage the rooms below. Seen it. Soffit vents limit that problem and also can reduce the issue of ice dams.
The snow must be different in Alaska. All houses have either gable and soffit vents at the eaves, and some have ridge vents in addition of the other two.
When it snows a lot and we have around 2 to 3 or more feet of snow on the roof, there is minimum ventilation on the ridge, so most of the ventilation left is from the eaves to the gables. If this ventilation is not available and we have a warm spell in the middle of the winter, the slightly warmer air in the attic condensates and turns to ice in the attic. Snow does not blow into the attic through the gables.

So there! I said "it"! Actually I didn't say anything. You contradicted yourself, then misquoted in your response to my post.
