I've had a similar idea in my head for a while now (one my wife doesn't share, BTW ) but I personally would love to live in my own private "museum house" for reasons I don't quite understand... maybe it's a past-life thing.
OMG where were you Chango when my inlaws were selling their home?
My inlaws built a home that was new, but had that old time construction. And I mean they had Mennonite carpenters and Amish masons. Each room had a fireplace. The woodwork was done by hand - flooring, walls, all of it. There were even beam ceilings.
And she had the furniture to match. Real antiques, including the quilts and silverware and dishes.
But it was also up to code. Bathrooms, wiring, kitchen, laundry.
I watch so many PBS series that I was starting to think all English people live like that! I can completely relate. I am very tempted to do the same circa late 60's early 70's...lot's of parties with martinis/manhattans, shag carpet, round beds, "The Girl From Ipanema" on the Hi-Fi...so much more fun than reality shows, smart phones and Xbox.
