We went back to the basic top loader washer last year. We looked for a model that had the biggest tub and used a lot of water. Our clothes haven't looked this good in a long time.
The washer that we just replaced was a very expensive and modern front loader low water usage. The machine actually pushes and sucks water through your clothes as if the clothes were a filter. We spent a ton of time and chemicals pretreating and soaking in order to have any chance of getting clean clothes.

We have a top load HE model... no problems at all. A few coworkers have front loading HE's and they have complained about replacing parts onthe front door seal due to mold or residue.

We've had a top load HE washer for a few months now and have been very happy with it. Best part is we didn't have to pay $300 for a pedastal to set it on.

Whats the deal with the pedastals? Why wouldnt they build them at a legit height?

Without the pedestals the front loaders can be stacked.

My SIL had to have a front loader. She hates it and would give anything to get rid of it, except my brother won't go for spending another 600 bucks on a washer.

She said no matter what she does she cannot get rid of the smell. She has other complaints, but I can't remember what they are.

I have a front loader and am happy with it. The key is, you HAVE to leave the door open when you are not using it. This allows the machine to dry and keeps the mildew smell away. You can also run bleach through it once in a while. If you are not willing to leave the door wide open, don't get a front loader.
