Like I said, use a drill with polishing pad. Should be able to get them at the automotive stores or most hardware stores. If you try and do it by hand you're going to be there forever.
If that don;t work and you have no concern about ruining it try a disc with some 3000 grit sandpaper then hit it with the polishing compound.

I'll try both if the first suggestion doesn't work. I have no concern of ruining it since I consider it already ruined.
I wouldnt dream of using harsh cleaners, and only hot soapy water and dry it off with a clean cloth or towel, now these black marks..Ive never had these on taps maybe our soft water... but someone has said white vinegar and another said Bar Mans Friend, whatever that is.... but I cant and wont use harsh smelly cleaners in my house.. Someone else has said microfibre cloths.

Well, hot water and soap won't kill germs which are more abundant in your kitchen sink than in your bathroom. I don't know what the cleaners were using. I was under the impression that they didn't use harsh chemicals. I've used both bleach and ammonia on chrome before and never had anything like this happen.
The owner of the cleaning company called today. It was apparently a lime-away or CLR type product. He is going to have the faucet replaced. This is a kitchen faucet That I wipe off daily. It really wasn't necessary to use a product like that.
Sounds like the faucet is chrome plated and not polished chrome. Sounds like the plating pealed off.
