Hi all, getting a new stone patio area installed, size is about 12x15 then grass for another 10 feet or so. I want to install some nice lighting that has a nicer look/feel than a flood light. Any suggestions? I am more interested in lighting the 12x15 area rather than the whole backyard.
My wife is a yard art freak apparently as we have every animal and every bug made out of metal or concrete out there. I use 12 volt lighting to give the yard a lighted but subdued effect. The newer LEDs for 12 volt lighting are BRIGHT if needed. A 20 watt LED is like a 25 watt incandescent bulb and puts out a lot of light. There are step lights at Lowes that are LED that are the same color of light as a fluorescent bulb but about like a 40 watt light. They can light up a lot of area depending on how you mount them. I have 2 sets of these things- one for the back yard and the other as security lighting. The security lighting is low light but if anybody is around, you'll see them. I'm a fan of the 12 volt lighting. They make all kinds of fixtures these days. The LEDs do not take many watts so it doesn't use much electricity. The power unit comes with a timer so you set it and forget it is how I use them. Might go by Lowes and take a look. They have all kinds including carriage lights, pedestal lights, etc. It's a no brainer to run the wire and make the connections. Even the wife has installed some of ours and if she can do it.....
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I am going to go with the lights below, each is the equivalent of a 60 watt bulb and they have a warm color temp.

We did a low block wall (paver blocks meant to be used in a wall application) with a cap around the permiter of our patio - with openings at each end of the patio (left to right).
We then built 3 columns into the wall (one at each end, and one in the middle) and ran electricity up through those to put lights on them.
They are switched at the back door. So we can turn on the patio lights as we go outside/put the dogs out/etc...
Much warmer looking than any sort of house floods.
