I don't miss the expense and disappointment of buying a live Christmas tree and watching it turn brown before the 25th, but I do miss the smell. I bought some essential pine oil and nothing I've tried keeps the scent around very long.

Any ideas? TIA!

What about those rings around light bulbs? I've seen them but not tried them. The light warms the oil and diffuses it.

If you have tree farms nearby, you can cut down your own tree and it will live for over a month, no brown at all. We keep ours up for a month+ and it stays pretty and green the whole time. The trick is to never let your tree dry out, and to water it every single day. Once it's cut, and not sitting in water, it starts to release sap at the cut and dries out, which will prevent your tree from drinking water, I always cringe at the cut trees standing w/out water at tree stands. Those poor trees are doomed. Sadly, many people are not fortunate like us, with tree farms nearby. I would suggest buying a quality candle with a tree/pine scent, maybe from Yankee Candle, or Bath & Bodyworks.

I haven't heard about these. Will check them out! Thanks!
I tried putting the oil on a cotton ball and dabbing it on the lightbulb, didn't work.

I've used the ceramic ring around a light bulb and it does work for a few hours. You have to use an incandescent bulb - the florescent ones aren't warm enough. The candle is also a good idea as long as it is burned safely. There are also ceramic candle essential oil burners. You put a small candle in the bottom part and pour some essential oil in the top part.

I quit putting in the live trees too. Disposal problems, etc. I found a little tree that looks pretty realistic. Decorated it and got a trash can of the proper size to store it in. Now, all I have to do is pull it out of the can and plug it in. After the holidays, it goes back in its can. :-)
