Always good to get the rest of the story...

Glad it is working out for you.

In my city, each line must now be inspected and/or repaired at time of sale.

Failure rate is almost 100% in some neighborhoods...

I paid to have my line done and the following year... the city had to replace the main which is 27 feet below the street surface and offered all the homeowners a new line for a flat $2000 fee due to the amount of work...

Figures that being pro-active bit me in rear... oh well.

Congratulations! It helps reconfirm my faith that most city utility departments are staffed by reasonable people who can come up with reasonable solutions. I don't know how big your city is but If this came up in my town I would expect a similar result. (Our main water line is 110+ years old and breaks at the connection points are an ongoing problem)

I am curious, if there is 100% failure rate where is the sewage going?

We are in San Diego county, but our "city" is about 300k residents?

They now require pressure testing and older clay tile lines will not pass... this doesn't always mean the sewer is leaking sewage as one pipe pours into the next section of pipe.

Just about any material other than properly installed plastic will fail.
