On our new house, we need a new doorbell. I was thinking of going the vintage route and using an old bell (similar to a dinner bell). Would it be loud enough to hear inside though? I wonder if i could mount the bell inside and have a pull string of some sort outside.

The house was built in 1920 if that helps.

Our house has what you are referring to, I think. We like it and you can hear it throughout.

very neat looking! Did you install it or was it there already when you moved in?

I have 3 doorbells in my house because I can't hear the doorbell upstairs or in the garage. So living room, upstairs, and in garage. These are all wired along with the button and transformer. If I leave my back door open, I can hear the garage doorbell in my back yard.

Also I have a note asking people to ring the doorbell - says that the door will NOT be answered if they knock because I can't hear it!

I used to see those on a lot of older houses. For sure in keeping with the style. Many of those can be heard all over the house.

Keep in mind that you mount that particular bell on the inside door. So if you have a storm/screen door the visitor will have open it.

Also, most people have no clue what it is.
