I had both in one house. If you have municipal water, the water powered backup is superior. Loss of water pressure, even in power outages, is rare. With a battery powered system, you gamble that the power will return before the battery runs down. I made my battery powered system with an RV water pump, a 12 volt car battery, a float and microswitch. The rv pump is underpowered for some sumps, but worked in my situation.
