I've been meaning to ask this for awhile.

Whenever someone new comes to my house (a friend or relative), I always give them a tour of the house.

I do this because growing up, my mom always did it and likely because she was into interior decorating and our our house was uniquely decorated.

But one day it occurred to me that this may be weird and I'll bet most others do not do this.

So, do you?

Default Yes, we do

Our new neighbor came over yesterday and got a short tour. She really wanted to talk about dining table dimensions.

We have given a number of tours to our developer's prospects. We are proud of our house and we like our developer so we are happy to help him sell another house in Denver.

You can tour also 3968 Vrain Street, Berkeley, Denver, CO 80212-2251 USA

With the old house, it depended on who the guests were. Family-yes, I would give tours. But, others, not so much.

With the new house, I have been giving tours to just about everyone who comes into the house. Just about everyone who comes in really wants to see it because it is such a unique house. In fact, I even gave a tour that I posted on YouTube. I love this house & want to show it off. I have thought about opening the house for the town during their annual History Day (sponsored by the local Historical Society) but I don't think I want to go THAT far. I don't think I would want strangers coming into my house.

Oh my! Very nice!

Our house isn't all that special in terms of decor and all. I think I just feel very proud that is mine. I've been in apartments for over half my life after my parent's foreclosure when I was a teen. Just feels like a hugh accomplishment for someone like me.

I used to do it when I was a show-off, upwardly mobile newlywed and all my friends were, too.

Now we rarely have people over who haven't been here before. LOL

If someone seems interested, then yes. I try to keep it short though because I know most people don't care what upgrades we have made and where we got the furniture or whatever. My husband tends to go into too much detail and I think it bores people sometimes.

I love seeing houses, so I'm personally always up for a tour if I haven't been to the house before.

If it's family/friends visiting from out of town, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Our HOA actually organizes an annual, informal tour of recently renovated homes, limiting participation to neighbors. Because the neighborhood consists of 1970s homes, a great many people are updating and renovating. It's fun to get together and swap ideas and stories. I can see the potential for such tours to turn ugly, but so far that hasn't been our experience. We renovated in 2012 and our neighbors were very supportive and kind.
