I would try peroxide - it works on blood, so possibly on hair dye? Can't hurt. Have to ask though: how on earth do you get it on rugs, cabinetry, etc. don't you do this in the bathroom?

I have leaned on surfaces I sprayed w/Clorox II. It happens!

To me, there is nothing like bleach. It sanitizes as well as kills mold and mildew. And it is cheaper than other household cleansers.
I just use regular bleach and I, too, have messed up a few clothes with bleach droplets. Put maybe 2 TBSP in a quart size spray bottle and spray the shower curtain every day. Chlorox 2 is the form that becomes hydrogen peroxide when it's mixed with water--like Oxy-Clean. A very dilute regular bleach wipe-off on door knobs, handles, table tops will kill bacteria and maybe viruses, too, but not too sure about that. If you have sick kids, a spray and wipe-off with bleach might help with keeping the sickness from spreading to others. (Cold and flu viruses are airborn so you can catch it from droplets in the air.) Restaurants use very weak bleach solutions to rinse dishes. It can even be used to purify water--just a few drops in a gallon of water and let it sit a few hours and your water is purified.

Someone told me to use hydrogen peroxide to get out haircolor stains. Anyone ever tried that? I wonder if that is true - and it works . . . ???

I clear everything out of the bathroom, put as much inside the cabinet as I can, making sure nothing will get hit....this time 2 small drops on the counter top....hit that with the clorox pen and gone gone gone.....but the shower curtain varies from a spot or two to slaughtering a cow..... that's usually when the liner gets washed!!

This is true. Dilute bleach will even kill HIV. We suggest to HIV+ patients to use diluted bleach to disinfect bathrooms while at home.

Shouldn't this tip carry a disclaimer perhaps that it is to be used on surfaces only? I would hate for somebody to read this that is HIV+ and start drinking diluted bleach water.

Holy cow anifani I can't believe this thread is still going. I think this is a contender for longstanding blog if not a runner up for one of the longest w/ consistent content.

Hair dye-- prevention is easier. Farm sink rinse works best. hehehehe

Bleach droplets ruined clothes? Nah. Just bleach them the rest of the way so it's consistent. You've only lost some color, not the clothes. Once the color lack is uniform you can always try a RIT kit to transform it into something else if white bothers you. Personally I don't trust myself with anything white. Just too messy about life projects to volunteer for worry. Dirt color is far more forgiving a friend.

Georgia and carolina red clay? May I interest you in a terra cotta wardrobe?

Hence the "while disinfecting the bathroom while at home".....I hope no one drinks bleach!

We've told our HIV patients to use Lysol. It used to say right on the can that it can kill HIV....not sure if it still does. Disclaimer: Use on surfaces only!!!

White cabinets in bathroom . . . white rugs in bathroom . . . and I try to catch anything while applying the goop . . . but don't always notice it til later. I guess I sling droplets while combing cause I move the rugs back out of the way and still find spots on occasion! Call me messy!!!!

Gosh, I never thought someone would try to DRINK bleach and "kill/cure" HIV.

It is to disinfect surfaces in the home... toilet seats, dishes, door knobs etc for people living with HIV who live with family who are HIV free.

{whew!} thanks for catching that.
