I knew we should spend 7500 to upgrade it when we bought the house; however, didn't have that money at that time. We want to add a media room on the second floor, now.
Is it possible to do it? If it is possible, anyone have any idea how much it will cost? Thanks!!!!
PS: We just want to have normal media room and no need anything fancy or special.
My brother added one. Anything is possible, but it is going to cost you. It is tough to ballpark something like this. It depends on what kind of exterior you have. There are just too many variables. Get a bid from a contractor. I think my brother spent about 50Kish. He said it was one of the best investments ever. His kids were in there and you could not hear a thing. lol I was actually drinking beer with a buddy last night and he is adding a media room too. Don't be cheap on the speakers. Especially, the center channel. Buy a used projector and used screen. JVC is the best for a modest price. Check videogon.com, audiogon.com, and ebay for good used gear.
A normal media room and nothing special can mean many things. You can spent 10K-1mil on the equipment.
What do you mean exactly? Are you talking about adding on the structure - framing out and finishing another room? That gets very expensive very quickly.
If you're talking about converting an existing bedroom/study into a media room that's a completely different scope of project.
Too bad. We are talking about adding on the structure, not converting an existing room.
It sounds like it costs a lot, and not cheaper than dig a pool in the back yard.
Actually, I want to have a pool in the back yard, and my wife wants to add a media room, so we try to find out which one is cheaper and has more return value.....

I honestly feel that you should do what you will enjoy more, no matter what the return value.
Pools are a resale detriment in my area, and they are expensive to maintain. YMMV.
If you are talking structure (drywall, etc) it will be expensive. The critical part are electronics though. Don't cheap out on those.
