We get a lot of random buzzing here. The delivery people buzz randomly when the recipients are not home, plus other people for whatever reason. I used many layers of packing tape to cover the intercom speaker in my home, but it doesn't reduce the sound even a bit. Does anyone have good tips how to make it less loud? It is very loud and truly annoying, even when it is meant for me. Thanks in advance

Unscrew the cover, drill a hole in it and add an L-pad or variable attenuator

Thanks, never heard about that. However this is a rented home, so I don't want to drill a hole as if making damage. Are there sound-proof materials that can be used to cover the speaker?

Not that wouldn't cause damage. If you are ok with just one setting of volume, you may be able to tuck the Lpad inside the enclosure. Once you open it up, you may even find a screwdriver slot volume control on the circuit board.

The idea given above is good but if you are renting and don't want to mess with other devices you might want to take the grille or cover off and put a piece of foam over the speaker then put the cover back on. That will deaden the sound.

Red face Did the foam work?

I heard that possibly cover the speaker with acoustic tile may work, has anyone heard about that?
