I am in the market for purchasing shower system(shower faucet, hot colder water mixing etc...) and I noticed that all shower trims works like backplate are plastic, even expensive ones like Kohler. Are there any real metal trim works for shower system out there? How long can plastic trims last? will I see metal paint fade off any time soon?

Where have you noticed this? Have you looked at the typical DIY Big Box Stores for these products? While you're there perhaps a salesperson could help you with their products and answer your questions.

I redid my bathroom and had no difficulty finding the products I wanted; hardware stores, Loews, Home Depot, etc.
