Love all those annoyances! My favorite is: "What, no refrigerator? That's a deal breaker." (So, you can afford a 500k home but you can't come up with $1500 for a refrigerator?)

Also, has anyone else noticed that 98% of the time the people/couples are either young and newly married or middle aged? Doesn't anyone over 70 ever buy a home?
I think they are skeptical about mortgaging a home for 30 years to a 70+ year old. It's probably the biggest reason I can't buy a home. My dad told me once that when you hit 70 your credit might as well be 'in the toilet'.

Just a thought, how about a show about empty nestors/retired buyers who are looking to DOWNSIZE and SIMPLIFY? After a lifetime, we realize that the latest spa bath is not necessary. etc. What is necessary is accessibility and no or low mortgage!!!! What we have just gone through. Could be pretty interesting as I think this is a big market these days.

Instead of how big, it is how small? Can we maintain this? Can we afford this just on social security?

I would watch that. And you're right...it IS a big market these days. Check out the Retirement forum. Many older people downsizing and looking for another home for their retirement years. And I'd be interested in seeing just how much they can afford to pay as well, on retirement funds.

I think they have had that in the past usually with folks who are looking for a condo in Florida or SC.

In addition to non-stop entertaining, many of the HH peopke need a dedicated home office. Even if one works as a Barista, they need one and heaven forbid they have to share with their partner.

Two more things that bug:

The young 20-somethings that see a kitchen with perfectly nice white appliances and say that they will need to rip out everything because it's not SS.

The single people that need a 3000 sq ft SFH. It sounds nice until you have to clean all those rooms yourself!

Just once I'd like to hear someone say the master bedroom is too large!

Don't forget the all important:

1 min commute

located smack dab downtown next to all the bars/resteraunts.

Even though we "Stretched and Strained" our budget to $120k, we NEED to eat out every night and drink overpriced alcohol in bars.

People watch this stuff and get unrealistic ideas about buying a house. They think what happens on TV is like real life. (Kind of like watching porn and thinking that's how regular people have sex - very unrealistic!)

HH is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. Every once in a while you get a character. I remember one guy who absolutely LOVED pocket doors and just kept talking about them and pointing out where they would improve the house. That was pretty funny.

My biggest complaint about HHis that ignores the most important aspect of real estate which is location. I know around Boston you can get a shack in an elite town for the price of what is basically a mansion in a run-down city. I'd really like to see the location aspect played up more, perhaps with maps and a description of the actual towns they're looking in.

If everyone wanted carpet, white appliances and butcher block countertops, then this is what you would see in shows, in your home improvement stores, and for sale.
Yes. If you like what I don't like then you are a sheep. Ah, come on and loosen up, man. this is a funny topic, so no need to harp on my words. Though I will say that it depends on price point and location when it comes to new construction - you will absolutely not get hardwood floors throughout, granite, and stainless as standard features unless you are paying a LOT of money (at least in my neck of the woods). So, your average first timer isn't going to get anything close to that unless they are ponying up some dough, definitely more dough than $250k.

That's the thing - everyone does NOT want the holy HGTV trinity, yet this is rarely represented in their programming. I wouldn't put it past some of these new homebuyers lusting after those things merely because it's the "in" thing and if the home improvement stores and HGTV says it's so, then it's so!

It's more funny than anything.
