I've seen those before but the only problem in my mind is that they're always there and don't completely block any light or give complete privacy. With a curtain or pocket door, once it's slid back in the morning or whenever, it's out of the way for the rest of the day.

How about some sort of free-standing folding screen?

Put it a few feet into the living area then you walk around the side of it to get in the bedroom wing.

Something like this.

On the same idea as ryan yet more permanent-
A Partition wall

You would need about 4' from the hall opening to the partition wall to allow enough room for maneuvering furniture.

I like the pocket door idea best but the curtain idea is easier to do so I'd start with that and if I didn't like it, I'd move forward with putting in the pocket door.

How about a accordion-style folding door like this:

If you install the pocket door make sure to get some good hardware and a heavier door. We bought a kit from Stanley they had at Lowes, has a reasonably thick gauge aluminum track. The wheels are a soft nylon like roller blade wheels with bearings. I'm sure there is better but I've seen other kits that are complete junk and inevitably are going to fail in a short time.

The reason for the heavier door is they hang from the track and there is going to be a gap between the wheels and the top of the track. With the heavier door you can't easily lift it off the track. It shouldn't come off the track if you do that but you can make sure with the heavier door.

I like the pocket door idea. You could also look at those shuttered type of closet doors that fold up if you have the room.

That's what I'd do. Depending on the decor, a curtain could actually look very elegant.

But I also like pocket doors. If they're installed correctly, they're no problem whatsoever.
