I am contemplating purchasing / installing from Lowes / Home Depot a couple shower doors to replace the shower curtains on 2 of the bathrooms in my house.

Looks like I can get this done in the $1100-$1500 range depending on how costly of units I want installed

Just curious who else has had them installed and your experience ?

Likes - dislikes ? etc ...

The biggest bonus I see is that 100% of the water stays inside the tub / wash area. vs leaking out at edges of the shower curtain and over time damaging tile / floor etc ...

Other pros and cons from those who have: 'been there - done that' ??

You already covered the real advantage to shower doors, they keep all of the water in the tub area. Is that worth the money to you? What about installing it yourself? It's generally not that hard.

The disadvantages of the shower doors is the cost, and that they need to be constantly cleaned.

I hate shower curtains and love shower doors. I just like the cleaner look and they make the bathroom look larger. The con is that you have to squeegie all the time to keep them looking nice. But I think they make a big difference in a bathroom. Curtains look cheap and tacky IMO. In apartments they work but glass doors add more class.

The kind that slide on tracks?

If so, I hate them. Cleaning those tracks is a PITA.

You can buy extra long clear vinyl shower curtain liners at Walmart. About $9.00.

They work perfectly.........and I have a combination of water pressure and shower head that throws water everywhere.

I like shower doors. I use an automotive glass wax on the doors and squeegee them after I shower to kept the soap build up away. I also use a car wax on the metal portion for the same reason. You only have to wax a few times a year and it beats the hell out of scrubbing the soap scum. And I prefer the swing doors to sliders.

I don't like turning around in the shower and banging elbows and the like on the glass doors. Curtains allow for some flexibility, and you can get curved curtain rods that allow more shoulder room. Use an inner liner to keep water in teh shower/tub and the outer curtain can sit outside the tub. Like our guest bath:

And the curtains work great in the en-suite that has a small shower in it:

I am getting a frameless glass door in my master bath shower. I think they look wonderful, although they are kind of ridiculously expensive.

For the second bath, I was going to go with a shower curtain but am now having second thoughts about that and think I am going to with with something like this. Still fairly expensive but not as much as frameless.

Get the doors. They improve the value of your home and look better, block all water, easier to clean (though you can just toss and replace the curtains).

We've had both and I have to say I prefer curtains to doors.

Getting a curved rod will make the space seem bigger. Definitely get a liner to go inside the tub and decorative curtain for outside the tub. Keep the curtain closed when not in used to avoid potential mold problems on the shower liner. They do make antimicrobial curtain liners but they do still require occasional cleaning.

Had curtains for 20+ years. Not a fan.
Had doors for 20+ years. OK. Had to replace when we went to sell as they had become cloudy (non-fixable cloudy).
Now have no door and no curb and love it.
