My inspector put this picture with a red arrow showing the main water shutoff valve. I'm curious what the other yellow shutoff handle is for?

Probably goes to an outside hose bib. That's what ours does. If you live in a cold freezing area you would need that to cut off the water supply to the outside hose bib so it doesn't freeze up in the winter.

I find that hard to believe that that would be the "main shutoff"- looks like it feeds the hosebib directly above.

I agree, the red arrow shuts off water to that hose bib, and hopefully the yellow one shuts off everything in the house.

Why not call the guy that did the inspection? He should know since he was the one that was actually at the house.

Yep, that is your main; the other one is the shut off for the irrigation system.

I hope you live in a warm climate as that being exposed outside can FREEZE up very easily.

Most water mains enter INSIDE the house vs out of the ground EXPOSED next to the foundation on the outside of the residential dwelling.
