I recently had a new heat pump and air handler installed. Since the installation, there is an irritating noxious odor coming out of the floor vents. It smells like metal/oil. The installers came back and looked everything over and said they couldn't find any potential source of the smell (e.g. the heat strips were clear and dry, electrical connections good). They said no chemicals were used in the installation - no duct sealers or mastic, etc. Has anyone ever had this problem? I'm wondering if there is simply a "new air handler smell" that needs off-gassing, like a new car smell. (Although, we had our upstairs second zone air handler replaced last year, and there was no smell from that.) Any advice would be most appreciated, thanks.
