We just added new Bella hardwood floors to the Kitchen/DiningRoom/LivingRoom level. its one big 22x22 square with a small 11ft wide wall going into the center.

The hardwood is prefinished. has 100yr warranty.
We had a dog until this summer. he had some bathroom problems but we cleaned it up quickly. no big kitchen spills. unless you drop a crab pot of water I don't see kitchen moisture being a problem.

so with our pre-fin floor, they grooves between pieces are accessible to water. maybe not the best idea for the kitchen, meaning maybe would've been better to do all unfinished wood and then finish the entire surface as one solid coat of finish, making it watertight.

Oh well.. looks great. people love it

Are you on slab or wood?
We had wood in kitchen and living areas and had cats and dogs. They were fine. The only problem we had was when our icemaker leaked and, since we had nailed down wood floors with some kind of underlayment, the water traveled under the floor and caused dark stains because it cannot dry well. If you do not have a big leak, then wood in the kitchen is fine.

I have a cat and a baby. Spills on hardwood are not a problem at all, but there is some scratching that both have caused on the hardwood. Cleanup is about the same as tile (I use the Rubbermaid version of the swiffer wet jet and it's fine).

I love hardwood floors everywhere, but if you are really concerned about them in wet areas or with your pets, take a look at the new porcelain/ceramic tiles that look like wood planks. This would give you the durability of tile and the look of wood. I was amazed at how nice these look and see a lot of it getting installed in my area.

I know we've talked about this in the past. I have oak tongue and groove wood floor throughout my home - newly installed during a remodel. The high traffic kitchen and hallway floor has 3 coats of commercial grade polyurethane on it. I have dogs. The floor is now 8 years old. I see no scratches except for where I dragged a loaded bookcase a few feet to clean behind it. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to be affected by spills, etc. But...... I keep it very clean and when frying things, clean the floor near the stove the same day, using Minwax hardwood floor cleaner. They are beautiful!
