Cleaning is cheaper. There are companies that do it.

Can you please recommend any? My house is about 3 years old and the grout looks like crap in my kitchen and sun room. I paid extra to have it sealed but I guess that job just sucked or never happened

That looks like the installer wiped the grout too early, or too deep. The grout lines look deep, which traps dirt/debris. And, sealer was not applied, unless it wasn't cleaned periodically.

I would scrub with an aggressive cleaner, and/or re-color the grout line.

Re-applying grout would be labor intensive and costly. You'd have to grind out 1/8" to 1/4" and re-grout entire area.

I'd like to know the name of highly recommended grout-cleaning companies too. I've heard good things about Stanley Steamer but dont know anyone who's used that company for grout cleaning.

I've tried just about every "guaranteed" grout cleaner and none worked very well. I also tried a grout paint and, OMG, the results were awful. (Thank goodness I tried it in a small area first.)

In a one gallon bucket, mix 2 cups bleach, 2 cups 9% acid vinegar, 1/4 cup laundry liquid soap (do not use dishwashing soap), fill bucket with water. Using a relatively soft nylon scrub brush, clean the grout and the tile. Allow the mixture to sit on the tile for several minutes. Mop twice to remove the soap. Works for us. You might have to supply fresh air to the room depending on the bleach you use.

I wish this thread hadnt been moved from the HOUSTON forum to the HOUSE forum. I was hoping to hear about personal experiences with local companies that clean grout.

sm24, please let us know what happens when you try to clean your grout. I've spent a lot of money on many different grout-cleaning products and I've watched many youtube videos on how to clean grout -- but nothing has worked.
