I'm building a closet in a master bedroom for an apartment, should I put doors on the closet or not? I see a lot people are not putting doors on their master bedroom closets, what do you guys think of that for an apartment?
Its really a matter of taste.
That said, as a home inspector, I am in several hundred homes a year, and whenever I see a closet without a door, I think it looks unfinished. Like the door is out for repair, and they are just making do until it comes back.
But that's just me. I'm not the one that has to live with it.
In my recent remodel I left the door off.
That was mostly about HVAC air movement issues...
but it also gets more light in the BR and one less floor space item helps with the too small room.
do you have small dogs or are going to allow small dogs and or cats in the apt ? the reason Im asking is because I had a small dog who loved to hide in closets behind boxes where she could not be seen and it really scared me one day because I thought she had gotten out and got lost and I was beside myself for most of the day until I found her in the closet . Right then and there I decided to put a door on that closet .
If you're not going to put up an actual door, one option might be to put up a tension bar (or a regular bar with brackets) with a full-length curtain draped on it to cover the doorway. I've seen that done in quite a few older houses. It's all a matter of taste.
A closet is not a decorative element and should have a door so it looks finished and to hide the clutter. Even a well organized closet isn't worth putting on display.
