Back from vacation... Key West was great!
I got 5 of the 7 cameras up before leaving. Full coverage around the house. I picked up 2 higher power IR cams to get a wider view of front and back but didnt get a chance to put up.
The front yard is about 100ft deep... still deciding if I want to put in house and point out (picking up the street) or on a tree close to street pointing back at the house.
Anyway... Three topics seemed to evolve.
1) Neighbors: I am being very considerate to their homes. Large properties at our dead end so I can cover my house without getting their places in the mix. Maybe if I opt to put the large cam on the house pointing out.
2) Kids: Truthfully.. not being naive parent, but my daughter really does nothing more than college (local) and work.
3) Guests: My main concern is really targeted at guests. We built the house to entertain (this will be our first full summer) and thats where I could see people commetning on the cameras. I get the point of "I dont care what they think" but if people are uncomfortable they dont come back... but our goal is to have friends come over!
Hi, I also want to install some security system cameras in my office so can you tell me the cost of that camera installation and charges of every month for maintenance and others.
I added a few extra cameras and cables from the internet.
When we remodeled, I put thoughts into where the cable modem was being placed so that it was a good spot for security DVR also... meaning it gave me a great spot to run cables front and back. Right now I have two exit points (front and back)
Currently, the cables are at ground level and yes if a criminal was smart enough they could cut the wires (not before being seen), but in the spring I will move a couple of the yard-view cameras up high and wire through the attic.
So I am really under $700 and a couple days time and more planning.
I can definitely see it costing multiple thousands for professional install and better equipment.
1) attached is piv 4 of my cameras.
2) for fun I bought a 500ft roll of cable, ran 300ft into the woods, and immediately was "catching" a lot of action. I used deer corn
Raccoon fight: these woods are pitch black at night in the summer... the racoon are 12-15 ft away pretty good image for a cheap system
I just ordered a Hikvision NVR and a few Hikvision 3MP cameras for my home. They are really high quality. I also have an alarm, several guns, a German Shepherd, and my own personal police officer... Me!
The reason I'm getting cameras is: I live on the corner entrance to a very large neighborhood, so I plan on supplying the police department with faces, vehicles, and maybe license plates when a crime occurs, if the criminal came into the neighborhood by my house. We have a great neighborhood, but we've had a few robberies and burglaries over the years, and I have a mentally-unstable neighbor that is violent.
For an example of the cameras I purchased, check out the video below and select 1080p in the settings (gear symbol at bottom right of YouTube video) for the full quality.

And I'm sure someone could hack it, just like they could hack anything else. So what? If I was that worried I would buy the DVR version. The remote possibility of this happening worries me way less than someone breaking in.
I think you and I would get along.
If my neighbors have a problem with the cameras after I install them, too bad. I am going to be nice and not point them towards other houses, but they will be covering the street with the top of the frame stopping at the houses (for their privacy). If they ask about it, I'll let them see what the camera angle is.

I used to investigate fraud in retail at a large retailer, so I've watched plenty of people on video. It gets really, really boring if they aren't doing anything wrong. I don't plan on reviewing my cameras unless there's an issue (crime nearby, missing UPS package, etc).

Please ignore the $6,200 estimate someone threw out there without any knowledge of your business. I could put HD cameras in a small office for under $1,000 if I did it myself, and they aren't hard to install. It's mostly plug-and-play, and you can find solutions online for any tech issues you have with your DVR (video recorder). A small dentist office would only need 2 or 3 cameras at $100 each + $300 for a DVR for good video.
There’s always some good buys on security cameras out there and they can be easy to install for most locations, it all depends on the type of the home or office and the difficulty in wiring. Costs can very but there’s always something in the price range that most people are willing to spend, it’s all a matter of choice and needs.
My system has been up for several years and after a month of tweaking and working some bugs out I don’t “review” any video unless there was an issue that required it. Like the OP I can’t stop a small time theft but I can deter him from entering my home and going down the street to an easier target. If they want something in my home they get their picture taken and that’s the good thing that helps the authorities to ID them on the street.
As for personal privacy at home, kids always want to be private. Once the system is up and running nobody pays attention to it after a while. Guests might say something the first time but after that it’s forgotten about.
(You might want to call a couple of security system companies in your area for a few more estimates!)
Hi Billy, Do you not think that you paid too much charge for installation of security system because I search in my area and they take not more than $950 and you paid $6,253.95 that was really costly I just want to know which type of security system you installed.
My personal policy would be to review recordings only in the case of a crime or incident as this was your stated goal for your security cameras in the first place.
