Well, our house isn't as cool as an old fire station or anything like that...it's just an everyday "raised ranch" style...BUT we do have a very cool basement (IMHO.) The walls are all kind of a rough cut timber, gives it a very "rustic" or "cabin" feel Our basement shower is also made of wood..cedar! We have a big closet in that bathroom that we'd like to convert into a cedar sauna, would be a great compliment to the shower.
The only thing that sucks about our basement is we have those ugly early 80's drop-panel ceiling tile thingys with the florescent lights. I HATE florescent lighting so I use lamps for now...new ceiling (hopefully with some nice recessed lighting or something) is yet another thing on our home improvement list!
When I was in middle school. I spent the night with my friend. I rode the bus home with her. She lived way out in the country. I knew her house looked different. When I went inside there was one long hallway. With alot of doors. She lead me to her bedroom. A huge room with a chalkboard. She never told me or anyone elce at school she lived in a old school house. she had like 10 brother and sister's. We were skateboarding down the hallway and playing basketball in the small gym. Dinner was different (Yes, it had a lunch room) I still do not know why she never told anyone, I thought it was sooooo cooool.
ROFL! The ants here have no need for their own home, they live in MINE!!
Great stories ya'll! Keep them coming! You know, if you don't live in a cool house, what kinda house would you live in? Give me a firehouse for my son, and a grist mill or lighthouse for me. Can you imagine? *sigh*
my mom and family live above my sted fathers job. Their house is actually very nice. It has 4 bedrooms, a nice size living room, 2 bathrooms, a huge storage room and an eat in kitchen.
My step dad is a Funeral Director.
I saw an old school converted to a house for sale at $500k. It still needed more remodling. That thing was like 12000 square feet, as big as a mansion! Came with 7 acres too! Would be a great place to consider if I was rich(will need to win the lottery)
This reminds me of a house I grew up by that we called the "rock" house.
It's really hard to explain without having a picture to show you, but this place looked like a castle, made out of black (I think basalt) rocks! It's built into the side of a hill (with a commanding view of the Duluth-Superior Harbor) and I believe it's in the Guiness Book (or maybe the national register of historic places?) for having the most stairs leading UP to a basement!
The people who owned it when I was really young went ALL OUT for Halloween, kids came from all over the city to trick or treat in our neighborhood. They had a loudspeaker blasting scary music and stuff (and someone teasing the would be trick or treaters), people dressed up and jumping out at you along the loooonnngg stairway up to the basement. Then once you got inside they had a maze you had to walk though before you got your candy at the end (they were very generous and gave a whole bag of candy!) GREAT memories
