I had a home that sold. Home Inspector said there was "mold" in the crawl space.

We called in the "mold experts". They came in a white truck and put on their white suits and even their helmets and face gear!!! They also wanted to charge thousands of dollars.

We then called one of my guys that is a contractor and does repairs. He went under the house, in his jeans, sprayed the area that was "infected" with a bleach type cleaner, and guaranteed no mold for a year.

Just the fact that you, as a buyer, are concerned with this issue means you must research it further and then make your decision. Hard to give advice without seeing the area and besides, none of us are trained to remove mold or even dirt for that matter!!!

Not a big deal? Thats crazy. People can get really sick from this mold issue. I would never tell a client not a big deal. Even if it's a tiny bit of mold.....hey everyone mold grows and spreads. I hate it and just typing about it right now is making me itch.

Hi, just my 2cents. There was an episode of extreme makeover a few weeks ago where a young father died because of his severe allergy to mold, please like e goldman said do not trust the realtor. I had a realtor tell me once oh there was previous termite damage, thatnk god I got an engineer the house was termite infested throughout. Please look into this you may be out money but it is worth it.

Realtors giving advice on termites?

Realtors giving advice on mold?

Is that part of MY JOB??? I don't think so!!! I'm not the expert on either so I tell my clients that we should hire the experts and let them give us their expert opinion.

A home inspector is not even allowed to use the word "termite"! We actually have the licensed pest inspector tell us if there are termites.

I'm not even sure they can use the word "mold" anymore. The home inspector has to mention moisture and recommend that we hire the "expert" to further guide us.

Therefore, if you, the buyer, are concerned and a Realtor tells you "not to worry"...I suggest you bring in the EXPERTS.

Default it is up to you

Some "mold experts" prey on this type of stuff, blowing things way out of proportion and charge thousands.

Some realtors will say anything to push a deal through.

Some buyers realize you have to watch your own back these days and educate yourself on issue like these and figure out on your own.

Did you get the inspector though a referral of anykind? Thats also a no no. Get an inspector on your own, research on the mold on the web on how to take care of (also remove the insulation under the floor since thats also a nice spot for mold to grow), maek your judgement and fix.

Its just another lesson learned, if it isnt a big deal then hey maybe the realtor or home seller would like to pay for it!
