We have retro rubber square tiling in the kitchen (picture attached), from when the house was built in the late 1940s. We like the rustic look.. Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to clean it?

Most rubber can be cleaned with general household cleaners and wiped down. Heck, even tire cleaner without silicone will clean it. You might have to agitate/brush it lightly. Just make sure you remove the chemicals with a good rinse/evacuation. Try 409 for starters and go from there.

Rubber?
That looks like plain vanilla (asphalt backed) linoleum tile

That looks like 9" VCT, not rubber. VCT is still made, and installed, today; just in a 12" tile vs the old 9" sizing. We us Armstrong Once N Done for weekly cleaning, and Armstrong ShineKeeper once a year for the finish.

The floor in the OP looks to be in good shape, so I think any old floor cleaner would do. I had decades of grunge ground into my floor, so I poured lemon scented Mr. Clean directly onto the floor without diluting it at all, (I bought a couple gallons at Lowes) and that did a pretty good job of stripping the floor. I've been told that ammonia will also dissolve the wax, but the lemon scented stuff definitely smelled better. Then, I applied a new coat of wax. I used SE Johnson's paste wax, but there are probably products specifically for kitchen floors available.
