I have had one for about seven years and have been pleased... but the material does not last forever so depending upon use, location, etc. it may need to be replaced in ten years or so.

I had a motorized one (much cheaper through costco) at my last house. We were happy with it. As noted, the fabric will not last for ever, but it can be replaced fairly easily.

Awnings need to be cleaned on at least seasonal basis as they can collect great amount of dust and dirt which may become eyesore rather than attractive part of home.

We have a sunsetter retractable awning and we love it. The motor died before we bought the house, but we leave it out almost all the time anyway so it doesn't really matter. We put it in manually before it snows and before very strong storms, but that only happens a few times per year.

The best thing about the awning is that it lets us use our backyard so much more often. It was nearly 90 degrees out yesterday but there was a nice breeze, so by being under the awning we were able to sit and enjoy the deck without roasting. Highly recommend!
