I am trying to decide between flooring options for a room attached to my garage. We want flooring that is easy to install and maintain as this will be a DIY project to create a man cave. The room has a concrete floor currently that looks to have been previously painted. I am thinking about carpet or carpet tiles since I can just vacuum and not have to worry about sweeping and mopping. The room has an air conditioner attached but I do not plan to run it continually, just when using the cave.
I like the easy install\replacement of the peel and stick tiles but am concerned with the ability to stay fixed to the slab since the room is outside and will not be continuously climate controlled. I live in Houston so it will get pretty warm when the air is not running. Has anyone used these is a similar seting? Do I need to completely remove the paint or just the peeling parts?
I was leaning toward dark carpet to eliminate having to sweep and mop as mentioned but also to have something a little softer for when I feel like being barefoot.
Those tiles are awesome, definitely worth checking out. Thank You
We have tiles similar to the ones above. They sell them at Lowes under a different name. A large variety of colors and surface textures. They are very durable, easy to install. Made of pvc I think. Our tiles are in a room similar to yours - we do live north of Seattle so different climate though. But I highly recommend them.

I have used carpet tiles; however, they were in climate controlled rooms. I used the carpet tiles from Home Depot (the frieze type) and have had good luck with them. I have put them over subfloor as well as painted concrete. The biggest issue is that the floor needs to be completely free of dust and dirt before you lay them. I found it easy and it works for us. I have them in an upstairs bedroom and they've lasted 7 years so far. The ones in the more heavily used family room (over the concrete) lasted about 5 years. I found it to be cheap and easy. Didn't have an issue with them coming up, either.
I have a screened, but not climate controlled porch in SC. I had good luck with inexpensive outdoor carpeting from a big box store. They suggested glue or tape down but I found it lays quite well so no need for glue. Maye a few strips of tape at entry ways but that is all.
I suggest a test. Buy a box of self stick carpet tiles and try a few near the entry way. Cheap test.
