18 months ago for Christmas I replaced ALL the bulbs in Mom's house with CREE 60w equivalents...

Have not had a single failure and all her fixtures are circa 1959 and some have several bulbs.

I am very impressed by CREE.

In my own home I had one go out... looking... it appears that it might have been dropped?

CREE replaced it.

Really noticed the savings at Mom's...

Now I hate CFL bulbs and they can be trouble to dispose of.

Never tried anything higher than 60W equivalents...

I have had no issue with any of the other bulbs to date.

Bad batches happen.
Wish I'd done that. I may try one more bulb to see if it'll go longer than 6 months.

No, no electrical problems whatsoever.

This is holding me up on new lights for the bathroom now.

Maybe I will try 60w equiv in my hallway. I like a LOT of light, so I don't think I'll use that for the bedroom. I now hate the CFLs also. I'm only using one in a closet, so I don't care about that one.

The lack of availability of greater-than-60-watt-equivalent bulbs is an endless source of irritation to me.

At $20 a pop, even the Wal-Mart brand 100-watt LED's are no fun to buy.

Especially as I replace all of the "9 year life CFL's" at two to three years.

When I bought enough to do Mom's house 18 months ago... I paid just under $9 per CREE 60W true color bulbs...

I also bought some 40W CREE for closets and the hallways... and the porch light.

And one CREE flood for her reading lamp which has always had a 150W reading bulb.

I know it is only 18 months... but, so far so good!

What size did you use in her reading lamp? I need a 100 or more for my living room.... It's on the most so it should make a difference.

Is Cree a Home Depot brand? I'm skeptical of that. I had bought Home Depot CFLs and they all failed within a couple of months. Never tried them again.

It's 2700k and 650 Lumens... I believe it is 9.5W

Switching from the 150 GE reader is like saving almost 94% on electricity used....

This is for a hanging lamp right over the kitchen table where she does all her reading... it's about 42" over the table and is a Flood Light.

CREE is a USA company that sells many lighting products... it just happens that Home Depot has partnered with CREE and Local Utilities to offer the bulbs at a discount... a friend in Washington DC was buying them at Home Depot there for under $5

Home Depot also has many other brands of LED.

Also... I noticed a change on the most recent CREE at Home Depot... they are not as heavy and it looks like they made some changes and also lowered the price...

Thanks for the info! I like the daylight bulbs. My local hardware store never has daylight in anything higher than 60w. Maybe I'll try Home Depot then.
