Any ideas on how to unclog a garbage disposal? Tried the baking soda and vinegar and got nothing. Same with plunger. Put basil stalks into the disposal. Won't do it again, that's for sure.

Unplug, reach in. Grab and remove. Find the hex wrench and loosen using the key at the bottom. Having a wet garbage container is a lot less hassle than a disposal, IME.

Understand what is "clogging " -- is it the drain, the grinding mechanism, the chamber?

If you use proper amounts of water, don't attempt to be grind objects that will jam, and monitor all the drains for free flow you ought to have no problems.

There is no reason to think that vinegar and baking soda will ever foster anything positive for a garbage disposal. Very weak acid mixed with mild base does not fizz as much as a can of shaken cola...

The fibers in the stems became stringy, and clogged the outlet. It may be easier to disconnect the drain and pull out the clog with a wire having a bent tip. You can also try using a plunger, just beware that if you have a dishwasher
air gap on top it will spew out water.

Had a garbage disposal for 25 years before moving to a house with septic. Only time it ever got clogged was when some unamed nitwit put a whole head of bad lettuce and celery through it quickly.

It was the waste pipe that was clogged well beyond the garbage disposal, fortunately there was cleanout.

If you can't see what's clogging it I'd start by disconnecting the drain and see if it's holding water. Try snaking it if that's the case.

Well, I fixed it myself. So happy and proud. Disattached PVC pipe between disposal and main drain. Cleaned out the gunk and reattached. Done and over. Thanks for all the advice.

Good for you! My hubby has this maneuver down to about 5 minutes...but I have a new disposer and it has eliminated my needing to pick and choose what to put down it. I still don't put lime skins or shrimp shells in it though.
