Our laundry room florescent tube lights flicker like strobe lights--what's wrong? Wrong tubes?

likely old ballasts in the fixtures.

best to replace these. You can buy just the replacement ballasts and install them (or have an electrician do it for you if you're not handy), or ...

replace the complete fixtures with updated lighting.

There's been many improvements in fluorescent lighting in the last few years, or consider LED lighting. LED is more energy efficient, but the fixtures/LED lamps will cost more initially.

I have flourescent lights in my place, and when they flicker that's usually a precursor to their going out. Just my experience...
