I have a Carrier electric furnace. I use the auxiliary heat only, it does not have a heat pump added. I noticed last winter the heat coming out of the registers was warm but not very hot. I assumed one of the two coils were burned in two or broken, but when I pulled the cover off I noticed the limit switch for one of the coils was burned up.
I purchased a new switch and installed it, but when I flipped the breakers on (the thermostat was still off) the coil lit up cherry red for 10 or 15 seconds and then shut off. Then it came on again in a minute or so and lit up red again and then shut off. I know this is going to fry the new switch, so I'd like to find the problem.
Not sure where to start looking. Any help would be appreciated.
