Today in the morning I heard a loud sound in the attic. I went to th attic and saw that one of the air vent you know that large silver hose type thing was on the attic floor. And the string that was used to lift it up was snapped. My question is why the vent is suspended off the attic floor. Also should I try to tie it again above the floor. This will be hard since it is quite at the back. Attic in on the roof and I live in Houston

Was it venting directly into the attic or to a roof vent above?

Properly, it should be vented outside.

Oh wait - are you talking AC duct or bathroom vent??? Both look similar but the bathroom vent would generally be smaller.

A bathroom vent should be vented to the outside. The AC duct isn't.

HVAC contractors suspend flex duct so it doesn't impede the placement of blown-in attic insulation.

If possible you should try and resecure it. Not that it will make a lot of difference now (insulation already inplace), but the weight of the duct could compress the insulation making it less effective in that area.
