funny thing about my stainless steel refrigerator is that magnets dont stick to the front doors (they only stick to the non-brush-metal sides). i thought that since steel is manufactured from iron that one of its properties is magnetism to polarized iron.

Another reason it's a classier look.
I used to cover my old white fridge with magnets and papers, but since I got a stainless fridge and was inadvertently prohibited from doing so, my kitchen just looks better. Not so tacky! And I got a cool Pottery Barn bulletin board system in an out-of-the-way corner for all the stuff the fridge magnets used to hold, similar to this.
We've replaced our old white appliances with black ones. We liked the look better than both white or stainless, and it looks nice with our silvery black granite and white cabinets.
The only appliance we haven't replaced yet is our oven - we're thinking that we'll do a stainless/black combo for that, but may just stick with solid black.
The thing I've learned about redoing your house is - do what appeals to you. There's no way to predict the trends of the future, and no matter what you do, it's basically guaranteed that some of your prospective buyers will love it and some will hate it.

There are different types of stainless steel. My last stainless fridge held magnets, my new one doesn't.
I got a magnet board from Ikea, and as Wmsn4Life mentioned, I think my kitchen actually looks a lot nicer with the magnets and papers, etc. confined to the magnet board and the front of my fridge is uncluttered.
I collect magnets. Even though I have a fridge that magnets will stick to, I have way too many magnets for them to fit on. We had an empty wall in a hallway-type pantry. We bought cheap metal sheets from Home Depot and put them up on the wall and now it holds all my magnets. My niece-who has SS appliances, was disappointed that her magnets won't stick to her fridge thought what we did was a good idea. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she put up a metal sheet for her magnets.
Stainless! We have white appliances, and I HATE them. I loved them when they were new, but only five years later and they look horrible. The handles are all starting to yellow. They're not dirty at all, they just start yellowing after a certain point, and there's nothing you can do to get them white again.
