Why do people wall mount TVs so high?

The proper height is just above a straight line from the distance from the screen.

I see a lot of the Above the Fireplace setupsand unless you are a long way from the screen is way too high.

Easy to solve, you just install a lift on your sofa.

I agree with another poster though, who ever thought about hanging a TV above a fire place should be shot, (to me) other than having a really large open concept multi purpose room, where height would make the TV visible from a lot of different angles, rather than a 20 x 20 regular size room, where a high up flat mounted not only looks stupid, but really is uncomfortable.


In the 80's we looked down at a TV, which is the eyes natural way to look, looking up (and I have relatives that have the high TV), and eyes looking up is not a natual position for them, it does hurt after a while....

I am glad I don't have to look at a TV in a low cabinet. I don't miss that at all. For awhile, we put our heavy old TVs in big armoires. They've gone the way of the dodo too. I think the flat screens are a big improvement.
