I don't doubt it. But I lived in Houston in the 1980's and if I'm not mistaken the new tract homes in the outer western suburbs (at that time in the rt. 6 area) were going for 60k.

My current zip code has an median home price of 245K with a property tax rate of 2.70%.

My old zip code has a median home price of 620K with a property tax rate of 1.25%.

You can find homes in Spring Branch for less than 500k.

Yes but North of I 10..or a few townhomes or condos in the Villages .

Texas does not have a state income tax so the property taxes are high. Plano is a fairly upscale suburb of Dallas and has good schools. My brother has a $250K home in a similar suburb of Houston and pays $7K a year in property taxes.

In my metro you can get a starter home in a safe blue collar area for under $100k. Up to $150 and you can get an older starter home in the good side of town.

Florida does not have state income tax and our property taxes are not high and we have homestead exemption so some people in older homes that are worth $50K or less pay almost no property tax. and by that I mean just a few bucks a year. I was looking for a home and checked tax records and you can see what they pay for the surrounding parcels and it's less than filing your tank at our now low prices. The trade off is that insuring a home costs a lot more due to hurricanes.
