My father told us we no longer had a home when we were 18 and out of high school. Six days after I graduated I was off to Marine Corps basic training.

17, I was told to be gone a week after HS graduation (and turned 18 a week after that).

They knew I had a place to go though as I started summer classes at college, on scholarships and living in the on-campus apartments.

Edited to add that this was 1991 and was the norm.

I went away to college at 16 going on 17. I never really lived there for longer than a few months after that. I officially left at 19, when I took a leave of absence from college and lived in NYC.

Came home after 2 years. Lived in my old bedroom. For 6 months. Met my husband. Married in a year, at 23 going on 24.

Never returned after that,

18. I left for college. Returned home for 3 months between freshman and sophomore years and never again returned home to live. I've never even lived in the same town as my parents since I left for my second year of college and most likely never will.
