Since he didn't need access to the house, I don't think it's that big of a deal, but I would have said "hey, next time, please call or text to let me know."
But if you were comfortable enough with him to give him the job in the first place, I fail to see how getting it done quicker than he said he would turns him into a potential burglar casing the joint. He's either a qualified (and hopefully bonded and insured) tradesperson, or you shouldn't have hired him to begin with.
Certainly. If he's going to be outside the whole time and intended to "case" the place, the customer's being home wouldn't have hindered his ability to "case" it while working outside.

I didn't chew the guy out and i did thank him but he stepped over the line and invaded our privacy. I don't want strangers on my property without my knowledge or consent. It's simply not professional and just common sense. Has nothing to do with paranoia. I agree he probably met well looking back

I think you're really blowing this out of proportion . You discussed the job , and settled on a price . I'm sure he thought he was doing you both a favor by getting the work done . Ok , so it freaked you out . Get over it . If that's the worst thing that happened to you this week , it's been a pretty damn good week .
