The owners of the house hubby and I just purchased told me we have hard water (well water). I've never had hard water before. What can I do to fix it?

Get a water softening system. You might also need a filter if there is particulate matter (and on well water, there may very well be). For the hard water though, you need a softening system. They can be pricey, but they're worth it because the alternative is mineral deposits in all your plumbing, which can lead to repeated repairs.

It is likely just minerals. My water is hard and I do nothing. Some people will install a water softener.
Now, this will give you a little less water pressure. If your well does not pump a lot, you may not like it. Did you get a well log? If not talk to your local heath department. They can give you a lot of information.

I would put a hose on a outside tap, let the water run at least four hours, then get a gallon pale and time how long it takes to fill. That will give you the GPM.

If you were in Michigan I would be glad to look your well log up.

Sorry, a filter will not change minerals. If your well needs a filter, you need a new well.

They need to know how much water is coming though the system. I have been on many calls where companies put softeners on, and the the pump or well just would not handle it. Then they were just out the money.

The house is in VA and I haven't moved in yet. I wasn't sure if it was something I could "just fix" having never been on well water before. I guess I'll wait until I move in.
