IMO, $4K is a low and concerning figure (and I'm cheap).
I've seen plenty of poorly installed high end systems but I've never seen a pro install of a goodman. : /

4K is "concerning" to me too but I think the lowest bid gets this job no matter what.

$4k guy has been doing HVAC work since at least the late 70s. He installed central air in my parents house around '88 (it still works) and in my brother's home about 8 years ago.

There's also a guy on Facebook who will do an install for $800 plus parts (supposedly licensed/insured). I believe that would be under $3k.

It sounds like you've already made your decision then.

$4000 sounds about right, and since it's a guy you know and trust, I'd go for it.

We had a new inside and outside heat pump put in last spring and it was $3500. I think the brand is York...it's been working like a champ and our bill has come down considerably (other unit was very old).

$4k guy got it done for $3950 - he took $50 off because it took two days instead of one.

Another guy recommended to me said he does changeouts for $750 (split) or $500 (gas). I'll definitely be keeping his number for future work. Could've saved about $1000 - oh well.

Well of course they are going to vouch for it. The warranty is usually parts only and most people are going to call the people who initially installed it to do repairs who have a much shorter labor warranty. FWIW the price of the install being south of $5000 is good price and fwiw my choice is Rheem.
