I'm having difficulty finding an answer thru google on this so I'm hoping someone here can help me.
I need to rebuild a collapsed garage. Long story short--homeowner wants the reconstruct TWO of these walls in their original state, which means structural brick w/ rebar & ties, NOT using block. The garage has been torn down, two walls need to be rebuilt in brick, and the rest of the garage will be frame (seems silly but there are reasons I don't want to get into).
Simple question: two walls, total length is 29 ft by 6 ft high (174 s.f.). Brick wall will be double width, running bond. I have all of the brick. New footing being poured on existing. I just need a brick layer to lay the brick on the new footing.
First estimate was $6,900, or $39.66 per s/f. Seems high to me. Any thoughts?
I'd love to know what AHJ would even allow that type of construction. Ya know, the right kind; with a permit(?)
As for cost- brick masons don't charge by the sq/ft- they charge by $/1000. A typical "cube" of modular brick has 500 bricks. So, 2 cubes would be a 1000.
