I have an expensive outer shower curtain that I wash twice a year, I don't replace it because it still looks new. I replace the liner (buy at dollar store for) probably 4 times a year.
Every season, once a year, twice a year? How often do you change your shower curtains?
Jeez...who replaces a shower curtain that often? You mean a liner??
I love my new shower curtain...just put in a "hookless" one last year after I redid the room - the liner is removable and washable. I wash the liner when it needs it; I have washed the curtain once. I had the last curtain for at least 6 or 7 years.
I am frugal so only use heavy duty liners no curtains. I change the shower liner / curtain about 2-3 times a year. I spray with shower cleaner after a shower but invariably they get an unsightly gunk buildup and at $1 each ( I stock up when I find them in close out section of local grocer) its easier for hygienic purposes to just replace when they get unseemly.
They also can serve double duty to wrap anything nasty when needed since they generally are decent grade mil.
Once someone asked me how often I shined the pans in my kitchen, probably about as often as that. It does get tossed into the washing machine occasionally, though.
Depends on how much I like my current shower curtain. I use the water-repellent kind (not the water-proof vinyl) so that I don't have to use a liner. If I really like it, I use it several years and throw it in the washer every couple months. I wash them and send them to Goodwill when I get tired of them.
Since they are $20-$30, it isn't something I regard as a major expense, especially not over several years. Plus my bath gets a "new" look every couple years. I have 4 sets of bath towels in silver, tan, pale blue and sage green and one set will go with whatever I am using at the moment.
The shower curtain liner.... Whenever it needs it.

The actual curtain - never. Washed it a few times.
But now we have a shower with no curtain needed, which is wonderful!

For us common folk, the shower "liner" is the shower curtain.
It depends on the type and which one. Some of our shower curtains are extra long. They are really hard to find. We replaced them almost never. They are plastic, you can always clean them. Some are lace. They are expensive and also hard to find. Those are outer curtains. We replace the cheap clear plastic liner but never the lace.
The clear plastic liners we keep a handful on hand. Buy a bunch whenever we find them on sale. Replace them if they get cloudy or mildewed.
