GFI's get fried. They only last about 15 years (sometimes more or less) depending on usage and brand. Newer models are getting better though.
Possible reasons:
1. You have not removed whatever was causing the GFI to trip. It could be a variety of issues with an appliance (coffee maker perhaps?). Water and moisture could be an issue [possible]
2. You are unable to press the reset button hard enough, that happens [surprisingly likely]
3. There could be damage to wiring [unlikely].
4. Loose connection [likely] which could also do damage to the GFI.
5. Yep, bad GFI. [most likely]
Your best bet is to go with Leviton brand, and the "weather resistant" models (which we use for outdoor outlets) are made much better than the standard line of GFI's.

Leviton is junk I've been an electrician for about 20 years and I have no problems with Legrand P&S and Hubbel brands.

Question. Did you switch the breaker off and then switch it back on or did you just look at it to see if it was on. Sometimes when a breaker trips it doesn't go all the way. So it looks like its on but really its off. BTDT.
Thank you for everyone's comments.
azdr0710 - don't worry, I ended up plugging the coffee maker into an outlet in the dining room, so, I was able to make my go-go juice!
So, I finally figured out what the issue was. I found out after plugging and unplugging that, I have two GFCI's in my kitchen. Each one controls 3-4 outlets, so, with that said, the one GFCI that was "out" has now been replaced, by my self, I must add! Thanks everyone!
