I want my house to be completely automatic, computer controlled, with artificial intelligence, which can do all chores. And it should even have spare time, during which it can hopefully get a job online and earn a living.
I'd love an extra bathroom so I didn't have to share with my son. Maybe a basement or 3rd floor for some exercise equipment and a bonus room. Maybe a slightly larger yard? And an extra garage.
Pure fantasy: a dance studio, not ballroom size but with mirrors, room for ten to line dance.
More serious: solar panels.
That would be cool. We love our home and have no intention of leaving. I did tell my wife and kids that if the money was there I would add a second and third floor. The top floor would be the kids rooms, each with its own bath. The middle floor would be the master suite, over the garage and the remainder would be a game, family, entertainment area. We are a Taekwondo Family. The real use for that big open area would be for a family Taekwondo studio
I say three story, because we have a small lot, land cost a lot here. Homes on the beach have grown to three stories and newer homes in land are being built up to 3 stories.
I love my 1929 bungalow, but there are a couple of things I really long for.
Central air is #1, by far. Unfortunately it's very, very expensive to retrofit behind the plaster. It will happen eventually, but the dollar amount gives me more chills than the system will once it's installed.
A pantry would be magnificent, either a walk-in or even just a floor to ceiling cabinet with roll outs. Right now I keep pantry stuff in the basement. The stairs are right off the kitchen, so it's not too bad, but it's certainly not as convenient as if the "overflow" dry goods and cans were right there in the kitchen.
Similarly, I would love to have more closet space in the master bedroom. Closets are pretty great for a house of it's age, but our bedroom is upstairs and the ceiling slopes such that closet space is pretty limited.
Easy.... a very large shop about 40x120 with a big gable door on a flat site to store my equipment and future projects.
That would be cool. My problem is our entire lot is only 60 x 100.
