Any front loading washer is going to be the way to go. They don't use anywhere near as much water as a top loader, and they are much easier on your cloths, and use way less power too. We bought one a few years ago and love the thing. Uses way less water and power, uses less detergent, and does a better job. Can't go wrong with that.
Yes, definitely a front loading washer. I have a Bosch and it weighs the load and detects the weight of the fabrics to determine just how much water to use. I love it and it saves loads of water!
Bought a LG Tromm pair when we moved in to our new house 6 wks ago. I absolutely LOVE them. They are very energy efficient and doesnt make a lot of noise.

My LG does the same. Previous, I had an Calypso (no agitator) by whirlpool, I liked that one also. The Calypso uses less water than a regular washer but more than a front loader.
I bought a Maytag front loader. I like front loaders because it senses the water you need based on the weight of the load, and because that is automatic, it removes one variable in the process, and more importantly, removes one more excuse for my husband NOT to understand how to operate the washer! Winner in my book!
We got a Maytag front loading set and they are wonderful. they do use a ton less water and actually do a better job with the laundry. The Washer has a sticker inside the door that states that it is made in germany and the insider tip I got was to get a made in Germany washer if I wanted a long term appliance. It senses the weight of the items in the washer and adjusts the amount of water used accordingly. It also rinses according to the amount of soap suds in the water. Remember to get the HE detergent to save water on that end
i think you're better off not to wash your clothes as often.
